The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress Elders Movement. They pledged to deliver more than 1.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu come the 2027 general elections.
At a meeting in Akure on Monday, the group’s chairman, Senator Nimbe Farunkanmi, spoke up. He said this elders coalition would work strategically. You know, to make sure there’s overwhelming support for Tinubu’s re-election all over the state.
“This is an Elders Movement for Tinubu’s continuity. Not just another support group,” Farunkanmi said. “We are a conglomerate of APC elders who speak with one voice. To ensure unity in the party and prevent internal crises.”
He added that the group aims to secure 90% of all votes cast in the state for Tinubu. They would begin mobilization at the grassroots level. Including local government areas, wards, and polling units.
APC chieftain Mr. Jamiu Ekungba also spoke. He said the goal was achievable. Noting that Ondo currently has about 1.9 million registered voters.
“We are mobilizing people to register through the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration by INEC,” he said. “In the last election, the governor secured over 366,000 votes. An unusual figure. This time, we want a turnout that reflects our real strength. And shows the nation that Tinubu enjoys true support in Ondo State.”
He emphasized that voter registration would be based on genuine commitment. To ensure turnout translates to actual votes in 2027.
Federal Commissioner at the National Population Commission, Mrs. Olukemi Iyantan. She is the wife of the late Ondo deputy governor. She said the focus of the Movement would fully shift to the 2027 presidential race. After the November 16 governorship election.
“We are building a unified force to work for Tinubu’s re-election. In the past, lack of leadership led to divisions within the party. With committed elders now in place, we have a source of wisdom and coordination. To guide our efforts,” she said.
Another party chieftain, Mr. Olumuyiwa Ogunleye, stressed that the meeting was part of efforts to unify the party’s support for President Tinubu.
“All support groups will now operate under a single umbrella. ‘Ondo State for Tinubu 2027’. To avoid fragmentation. This structure aligns with the governor’s statutory caucus. And ensures all efforts are harmonized,” he explained.
The Elders Movement pledged continued engagement and mobilization across all levels in the state. With the aim of delivering a historic mandate for Tinubu in 2027.
