One Month Out: Uncertainty Grows Around 2026 World Cup

As the 2026 FIFA World Cup draws near, with the tournament set to begin in just one month across the United States, Mexico, and Canada

Several national teams are already preparing for the tournament, with 48 delegations set to arrive across multiple cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico for the first-ever FIFA World Cup co-hosted by three countries.

Despite the excitement, the 2026 tournament is mired in controversy over soaring ticket prices, accommodation shortages, political tensions, and the ongoing war in Iran.

High ticket costs have sparked protests from numerous football federations, forcing FIFA President Gianni Infantino to urgently address the growing public relations crisis.

The most expensive ticket packages for 2026 are priced at $32,970 more than 20 times higher than the top-tier tickets that cost $1,600 during the 2022 World Cup. Critics have described the prices as extortionate.

FIFA has received more than 500 million ticket requests for the 2026 World Cup a massive jump compared to the combined total of 50 million for the 2018 and 2022 tournaments.

However, concerns have been raised over soaring accommodation and transportation costs, as well as visa restrictions.

The Trump administration’s strict immigration enforcement policies, along with its approach to protests and press freedom, have added to the worries surrounding the event.
