President Bola Tinubu has vowed to intensify security operations in response to the recent wave of deadly attacks in Maiduguri, northeastern Nigeria.
Taking to his official X page on Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu expressed heartfelt condolences to the victims of the Maiduguri attacks and their families. “I mourn those who lost their lives, sympathise with the injured and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno.”
The President vowed that the government would redouble its efforts to dismantle armed groups across the country, while praising Nigerian troops for successfully repelling coordinated assaults on military positions in Maiduguri, Borno State’s capital.
President Tinubu announced that additional military equipment and operational support have been approved, while directing top security officials to relocate to Maiduguri to directly oversee the response.
Emergency agencies have been mobilized to provide aid to victims.
The coordinated attacks unfolded Monday evening in busy areas of the city, including a market, the vicinity of a post office, and the entrance to a teaching hospital, officials confirmed.
The Nigerian military warned that suspected Boko Haram-linked militants may have infiltrated multiple suicide bombers into Maiduguri, urging residents to steer clear of crowded places and stay vigilant.
Authorities reported at least 23 deaths and more than 100 injuries from the blasts.
Police stated that bomb disposal teams have secured the sites and conducted sweep operations to eliminate further threats, with investigations ongoing.
Officials emphasized continued efforts to avert additional attacks in the insurgency-plagued region.
