State of Emergency Lifted in Rivers After Six Months

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has ended the six-month emergency rule in Rivers State, citing the resolution of the governance and constitutional crisis that prompted the measure.

Rivers State, located in Nigeria’s oil-rich Niger Delta, had been under a state of emergency since March 18.

That emergency ended on Wednesday after President Bola Tinubu lifted the measure and reinstated Siminalayi Fubara as Governor of Rivers State.

According to social media reports, Fubara returned to the Government House on Thursday, where the state’s governing institutions resumed normal operations.
