As Sudan’s devastating conflict marks the beginning of its fourth year, a significant development on the battlefield may indicate fresh fractures in the fighting.
Major General al-Nour Ahmed Adam, widely known as “al-Qubba,” a senior commander in the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has defected to Sudan’s national army. His departure represents one of the highest profile defections since the conflict began in 2023.
In Sudan’s Northern Province, near the Egyptian border, Army chief General Abdel-Fattah Burhan personally welcomed Adam. In a statement, Burhan declared that the “doors are open” to anyone willing to lay down their arms and join the national rebuilding effort.
A video released by Sudan’s ruling council shows Adam standing alongside the soldiers who defected with him and joined the government forces.
Here’s a rewritten, smoother, and more polished version of the body:The defection comes amid Sudan’s devastating humanitarian crisis, which aid organizations have described as the world’s worst. Millions remain displaced, famine is spreading, and violence continues unabated with no end in sight.
